CLASS DESCRIPTION

One basic 25" body pattern with 3 awesome costume variations, 2 leg patterns, and simple face sculpturing. The cotton version of this doll will be published September 1st but in this special addition you also receive instructions for two other technique-packed costumes.

The first is a needle felt embellished coat, pants and hat. You'll learn to add dyed wool embellishments to the clothing with felting needles. In the last version you'll make the coat fabric from collaged velvet, yarns, Angelina fibers and machine stitching. Several hat styles and embellishment tricks are explored as well.

      Class will be 4 weeks.

Julie McCullough        I have been a fiber artist for more than 25 years, first as a weaver and spinner, then as a soft sculpture dragon lady and now as a doll maker and pattern designer. One thing has just logically... or illogically... led to another without a great deal of thought or planning by me. I think my dolls are recognizable for their unique hair treatments, bold colors and whimsical subject matters. I like clean designs with strong elements. I seldom use pastels, florals, lace or ruffles. I enjoy creating fabric embellishments that are subtle and part of the design of the dolls. As adult playthings they reflect my love for theatre and the performing arts.

My husband and I recently moved to Des Moines Iowa where he manages the local community theatre. I'm working out of our house in my colorful new studio that faces a woods and creek. I love the inspiration I get from the trees, rocks, birds and animals I see daily. Trips back to New York to the Garment and Theatre Districts keep my supplied with even more ideas and supplies. It's a great combination!
